Rewind back to 2007 and check out this first look at “The September Issue”, a documentary the 840-page colossal — the biggest Vogue issue yet. Lots of Anna praising, Anna disapproving and great side profiles of the “Modonna” of fashion, according to Thakoon.

Alexander Wang collaborates with Gap

The 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner and one of the industry’s hottest designers Alexander Wang has collaborated with the company to create something out of the ordinary with the store’s most timeless fabric: khaki.

Patrick Robinson, Head Designer for Gap, Inc., released a statement that the best of both worlds will collide and create some essential pieces with khaki. “He did this incredible motorcycle jacket in khaki that’s going to be under $100.” Robinson stated. “It’s coming out on June 16th, so get ready!”

Wang won’t be doing renditions of the classic white t-shirt, which is odd to ponder over because the day-after slouchy t-shirt is one of Wang’s signature pieces — contributing to his famous “model off-duty” look. But the khaki jacket is sure to squeeze out a few squeals from girls de la mode in the U.S. and possibly worldwide.

I always thought khakis were limited to pants, but in mid-June I will be proven wrong.

True and au natural “make-up” the girl de l’anée

Photo provided by Fashionologie.com

French Elle have revolutionized fashion and beauty by glamourizing what is truly skin deep. The magazine, starting today, will release April’s issue that will feature three different covers from three different celebrities: Monica Bellucci, Eva Herzigova and Sophie Marceau  – without make-up and untouched by retouches.

Along with the said three includes many others. Internationally-acclaimed fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh captured their essence for this month’s issue.

This decision was a daring move for both celebrities and the magazine who have decided to dispose the glitz and glamour for the bare necessities. Many magazines have folded due to their out-of-touch nature with their audience; I think this is something that everyone in the fashion industry should incorperate into their definition of “beauty.”

Words of irrelevance at a time like this

Photo provided by the Guardian.

American fashion right now is struggling… I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don’t think that’s the right message at this particular point. – Oscar de la Renta, on Michelle Obama’s attire choice at Buckingham Palace.

On this argument, I think I’m going to have to side with Mrs. Obama. What I DON’T think is a right message for the people at this moment in history is to create this hierarchical barrier between you and the country you represent through lavish clothing. Maybe de la Renta is saying this because many high-end designers have seen their sales plummeted and store like J. Crew, also mentioned in this article, are racking in upper-class interest in alternative elegance. But instead of pointing fingers at figures who could be your walking billboard, why not look into your own company and see what changes you as a designer need to do – like adjust your mindboggling price tags to a less enthusiastic economy, especially if sales is really somthing that concerns you.

You can find this quote and the whole story here.

Topshop: the new British invasion

Topshop finally opened its New York flagship store today at 10:50 a.m., scheduled time 11 a.m., to a line of giddy and zealous fashionistas, which twisted all over the Soho streets.

Britt Aboutaleb reported on the event for Fashionista.com and described the crowd’s enthusiasm and grand opening perks. This well-organized event distributed coffee and gift-cards to attendees, as many run around in Godspeed to pick up their favorite collection piece. Designers like Christopher Kane stood alongside his pieces. Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green was also present, granting interviews to reporters who desire it and watching the enthusiasm of the shop’s U.S. fans in action.

I’m personally pumped on this grand opening because this store will be my first shopping destination on my next trip to the Big Apple. Too bad I lucked out of the gift cards giveaways.

‘Rue La La!” A FENDI sale

Earlier today, Rue La La unhooked the rope for the site’s huge sale on Fendi bags, sunglasses and shoes. These items have been hastily grabbed from fashion-hungry customers. Already all the sunglasses have sold out. Look around for someone to give you an invite to the store to join in the sale before it’s too late. The sale ends April 4.

Ahem. I have an account.

Bill Blass rumored to catch ‘yellow fever’ once again

The party and reign of success doesn’t stop for designer Richard Chai as he is currently rumored, due to multiple industry sources, to fill in the position as creative director for the Bill Blass brand.

But the rumor will not settle for another month, when the company plans to  unveil their new creative director. In an article for Fashion Week Daily, Peacock International Holdings’ vice president of licensing and sales Scott Patti told The Daily, “We can’t comment on who we’re interviewing for the position.” Peacock is currently owner of the Bill Blass brand.

The Daily mentions that the designer recently celebrated his success at the Barneys in New York for the launch of his men’s Spring 2009 line, which was a sugary addition to the good reviews of his women’s Fall line and an affordable line launched for Target last year. He started his career launching the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection in 2000. If that doesn’t “wow” you, perhaps his title as People’s Magazine Sexiest New Designer will sizzle into your desires.

If Richard Chai does take the posistion, he will be following the footsteps of fellow Asian-American Peter Som. Chai’s style of wearable & simplistically sexy with intricate details is “well-suited” for the brand. Hopefully he can bring the brand back to its feet and incorporate my favorite detail, the origami folds.

The Devil’s reallocated and “locked”

It looks like the world of fashion is going to make a transistion from the Little Richard pompadour- showcased in the Spring 2009 Max Mara fashion show – to the “devil lock” popularized by The Misfits.

In the Fall 2009 RTW show, Marc seems to have had a team of hair stylists reinvent this look with many additions and alterations: the asymmetrical devil lock with the asymetrical chignon (as exemplified by Jessica Stam), a crimpped and “mohawked” devil lock and a much feathered rendition that resembles a black rooster burrowing into its own warmth.

Often the downside to a devil lock is that it aligns above the T-zone of the face. Young boys and girls enjoying “Walk Among Us” will, most likely, also enjoy the pains of acne, and this ‘do is anything but helpful to that. Because it requires handfuls of hair wax to keep it in place, those with pores large enough to fit balls of caviar will have that wax clogging their skin and eventually discover a colony of zits confined in the T-zone.

But now 2009 is here and it’s here to be practical. Simply shift that devil lock to the side or let it hang above you like a lamp with tassels. (Why didn’t we think of that?!)  Instead of ‘turning into an [adolescent] martian’, proudly yell, “Whoa-oh, no more clogged pore-ohs” (a bit of a stretch) into the mirror and don’t forget to decor your face with the Duran Duran face palette – to keep you from looking too androgynous.

Maybe this will be the new beehive. Style it on Friday and wear it for a weekend or even more, just pick out the bugs and twigs that would nest in your hair.
