The party and reign of success doesn’t stop for designer Richard Chai as he is currently rumored, due to multiple industry sources, to fill in the position as creative director for the Bill Blass brand.
But the rumor will not settle for another month, when the company plans to unveil their new creative director. In an article for Fashion Week Daily, Peacock International Holdings’ vice president of licensing and sales Scott Patti told The Daily, “We can’t comment on who we’re interviewing for the position.” Peacock is currently owner of the Bill Blass brand.
The Daily mentions that the designer recently celebrated his success at the Barneys in New York for the launch of his men’s Spring 2009 line, which was a sugary addition to the good reviews of his women’s Fall line and an affordable line launched for Target last year. He started his career launching the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection in 2000. If that doesn’t “wow” you, perhaps his title as People’s Magazine Sexiest New Designer will sizzle into your desires.
If Richard Chai does take the posistion, he will be following the footsteps of fellow Asian-American Peter Som. Chai’s style of wearable & simplistically sexy with intricate details is “well-suited” for the brand. Hopefully he can bring the brand back to its feet and incorporate my favorite detail, the origami folds.
